About the Marine Corps League

General Lejeune
General John A Lejeune

The Marine Corps League was founded by General John A. Lejeune in 1923, receiving its national Charter by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937. The Ventura County Detachment received its Charter on June 30, 1985. We are classified as a veterans/military service organization whose purpose is to promote the interests and preserve the traditions of the U. S. Marine Corps; assist fellow Marines, their widows and orphans and participate in various patriotic ceremonies. This detachment is organized under the Department of California within the Southwest Division and the National Headquarters of the Marine Corps League.

The league is comprised of honorably discharged as well as reserve and active duty Marines and FMF Navy Corpsmen with over 90 days of service. Those individuals that want to participate with the Marine Corps League but do not otherwise qualify may join as Associate Members.

The Marine Corps League Mission Statement: Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharge from that service; voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their widows and orphans, and by perpetuating the history of the United States Marine Corps through fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

Laos File

The death of a salty old senior NCO who ran special operations in Vietnam leads Marine Gunner Shake Davis on a shocking and potentially lethal quest to find out what happened to hundreds of American POWs. Written by the bestselling author of 'Platoon,' Dale A. Dye.

About the author:
Dale Dye is a Marine officer who rose through the ranks to retire as a Captain after twenty-one years of service in war and peace. He is a distinguished graduate of Missouri Military Academy who enlisted the United States Marine Corps shortly after graduation. Sent to war in Southeast Asia, he served in Vietnam in 1965 and 1967 through 1970 surviving 31 major combat operations. Appointed a Warrant Officer in 1976, he later converted his commission and was a Captain when he deployed to Beirut, Lebanon with the Multinational Force in 1982-83. He served in a variety of assignments around the world and along the way attained a degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland. Following retirement from active duty in 1984, he spent time in Central America, reporting and training troops for guerrilla warfare in El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica.
